Acquitaine has a long history of both war and peace.  During one of its more peaceful eras under Louis 1 and the Carolingians, it appears that the knights started pondering how to create a wine that actually looked blood red.   According to urban legend, they spent a couple hundred years doing so and then tested their finished product in Portugal at an outdoor wine tank in an early Christian theme park.

The net result is that it sort of looks like someone actually soaked people in human blood in that tank.  Yet according to legend, it is actually the blood of christ wine that the knights created as an exhibit at the 1027 party.

We plan to start a contest with a TV segment to try and recreate a red look naturally and also backtrack and try and discover what it was that they did to create this.  Stay tuned!
